Update (2026-09-16)

  • Rebased onto CLI dev at ef689f8; no conflicts. npm run verify passes with 417 tests.
  • Rechecked the open review threads against the rebased code and resolved them:
    • --paginate help text: states that --max-items is required.
    • test/developer/client.test.ts: lint passes with SDK 0845299.
    • POSIX permission tests: use test.skipIf(win32).
    • The forwarding test injects a resolver, so it no longer needs DNS.
    • operation watch: the command was removed.
  • Follow-up after Align QuickLink settings, Customer, and Cloud webhook types with API 1600403 sdks#12 merges: the typed response field on delivery attempts lands there (#256). The defensive read in this PR can then switch to the typed field.

Summary

  • Adds owner-scoped developer commands for events, webhooks, webhook deliveries, and delivery attempts. Detail views print human-readable fields and escape control characters in remote text.
  • Adds polymorfa listen, a strict SSE listener with JSONL and human output, cumulative acknowledgements, checkpoints, bounded reconnects, HMAC-signed local forwarding, and gap handling that fails closed.
  • Adds MCP stdio install, status, tools, and doctor commands, in-process listener tools, and packaged polymorfa and polymorfa-webhooks skills.
  • Adds quicklink view and quicklink cancel next to dev's quicklink create. View and cancel accept an organization key or an exact-project token.
  • Adds project-token profiles, versioned JSON/JSONL envelopes, and typed stderr errors. dev's payment_required handling is kept inside the new error envelope.

Rebased onto dev at 2dea634 (includes #7 and #6).

Rebase decisions

  • quicklink create: dev's JSON --input version is kept unchanged. This PR's flag-based create is dropped. The PR's view and cancel are kept because SDK 0845299 (MessagingClient.quickLinks.retrieve/cancel) and API 1600403 (GET/DELETE /messaging/quicklinks/{id}, quicklink:manage) back them. quicklink cancel --idempotency-key was removed because the cancel handler does not read that header.
  • operation commands: all removed (list, view, wait, watch, cancel), along with the operation watcher, the polymorfa-operations skill, and operation.statusUrl. At API 1600403, operation routes exist only under /console/*, require a dashboard session, and are marked "unavailable to machine credentials". SDK 0845299 removed its operations resource, and its coverage ledger lists those routes as excluded console-only operations. Mutation envelopes still report operation.id.
  • widget view / widget update: dev's commands are kept, contrary to this PR's original deletion. SDK quickLinkSettings and GET/PUT /platform/quicklink (quicklink:manage) still back them. The README now names the correct scope.
  • SDK client: developer resources now use the /platform prefix. The listener stays on /v1/cli/*, which matches the runtime routes at 1600403.

Contract pins

  • @polymorfa/sdk: github:polymorfa/sdks#08452992a32a392de5fc3d0fa3954ba6addd7f32 (same as dev)
  • Backend/spec source: 1600403db9dcf7996dbbb882375b1165859829d3 (the SDK's contracts/source.json records the same commit)

Every developer route the CLI calls is marked covered in the SDK ledger at 0845299. The CLI does not use raw.request to fill gaps.

Review follow-up

Commit 5fe1e91 addresses the CodeRabbit findings. It rejects empty idempotency keys and impossible calendar dates. It enforces --max-items when a page is oversized and rejects unchanged cursors in both pagination loops. Detail views now render human-readable output. mcp status treats a missing client binary as not configured, and MCP shutdown errors are reported. The MCP projectId schema now matches listener validation, and the origin error message is corrected. Tests no longer depend on DNS and skip POSIX-mode assertions on Windows. Each thread has a reply. Three threads were not changed because they no longer apply (--accent, operation watch) or do not reproduce with the pinned SDK (client.test.ts lint).

Verification

  • npm ci on a clean tree passed. npm warned that it skips the integrity check for the Git SDK dependency.
  • npm run verify passed:
    • format check and lint passed
    • typecheck passed
    • tests: 57 files, 417 tests
    • clean build passed
    • package dry-run: 854 files, 211.2 kB packed, 1.2 MB unpacked
    • npm audit --omit=dev: 0 vulnerabilities
  • Full npm audit reports 3 vulnerabilities in dev dependencies only (vitest 3.2.7, js-yaml 4.3.1 through eslint). dev has the same versions, so this PR does not address them.
  • Packed tarball smoke test in a blank consumer:
    • polymorfa version printed polymorfa/0.1.0-dev.0 sdk/0.1.0-dev.0
    • quicklink cancel --help, widget view --help, and mcp tools --json (3 listener tools) worked
    • operation list is not found
  • Not run: live Staging or production requests, a real SSE stream, real MCP clients, and Windows.

Five-part assessment

  • API: unaffected. This PR changes no API code. It was checked against spec 1600403 and corrected for two drifts: operations are console-only, and delivery attempts now include a nullable redacted response excerpt. JSON output passes that excerpt through, and human output renders it.
  • SDKs: unaffected, with one gap. No SDK change is needed; every method the CLI uses exists at 0845299. Gap: WebhookDeliveryAttempt in SDK 0845299 has no response field, although API 1600403 requires it. The CLI reads it defensively. The SDK repository should add the type.
  • CLI: updated. Commands, flags, help, topics, skills, README, and research and design docs now match the pins.
  • Docs: updated in this repository; public docs unaffected. @polymorfa/cli is unpublished, and the public Mintlify site has no CLI pages. The internal monorepo decision doc internal/docs/superpowers/specs/2026-08-21-developer-surface-decisions.md still describes operations resources and operation watch, which the 2026-09-08 unified reference handoff superseded. That doc is outside this repository and was not edited.
  • Feature releases: unaffected. No feature flag or release record exists for the CLI developer surface, and this PR adds none. The package is not published, and availability is limited to installs from the private Git repository. Server-side enforcement (scopes, owner, listener authorization) is unchanged.

Remaining release gates

This PR does not publish @polymorfa/cli, merge itself, or claim deployed Staging acceptance. Staging end-to-end testing remains a separate gate after backend deployment. Earlier gates carried forward from the original description:

  • the backend maxEventBytes correction, which needs approval
  • the MCP v2 RFC wording correction

Feature video

The earlier walkthrough (docs/feature-videos/developer-workflows.mp4, recorded at 7d506a4) covers the listen/forward/acknowledge/checkpoint workflow. It is workflow-contract evidence, not runtime proof, and it predates the removal of the operation commands.

flag is passed through and the returned response payload is included in
human-readable output when enabled. Preserve the existing id and type rendering
and omit the payload when the flag is unset.

In `@src/commands/mcp/serve.ts`:
- Around line 9-16: Update the shutdown callback in run so it handles rejection

when status queries both clients.

In `@src/commands/operation/watch.ts`:
- Around line 33-37: Rename the local duration flag in OperationWatch.flags from
timeout to watch-timeout, preserving BaseCommand.baseFlags.timeout for the

leading `#`, matching the existing validation behavior.

In `@src/commands/webhook/view.ts`:
- Line 22: Update the human-readable output in the webhook, delivery, and
delivery-attempt view commands to render focused resource details from each
command’s response.data instead of static identifier-only messages, while
preserving developerResponse(...) for JSON output and the existing writeValue
flow.

In `@src/developer/flags.ts`:
- Around line 16-19: Align the paginate flag configuration with the validation
behavior in validatePagination and its caller listResources: either allow
--paginate without --max-items so it can request all pages, or revise the
description and usage contract to require --max-items. Keep the documented
behavior and runtime validation consistent.

In `@src/developer/support.ts`:
- Line 76: Update the pagination logic around items.push(...last.items) to
append no more than the remaining maxItems capacity, slicing the final page when
necessary. When items are discarded because the server returned an oversized
page, return a non-resumable page result rather than exposing an inaccurate
continuation cursor, matching the established behavior in collect.
- Around line 77-78: Update the pagination loops in src/developer/support.ts
lines 77-78 and src/pagination/collect.ts lines 37-38 to stop when the
continuation cursor is unchanged: compare last.nextCursor or page.nextCursor
with the current cursor before assigning it. Preserve the existing hasMore,
cursor presence, and empty-page checks, and apply the same guard at both sites.

In `@src/input/idempotency.ts`:
- Around line 8-10: Update the idempotency-key logic around supplied and key so
a generated key is used only when value is undefined; reject explicitly supplied
empty or whitespace-only values instead of generating a new key, while
preserving non-empty trimmed keys.

In `@src/input/time.ts`:
- Line 26: Update the validation condition in the time input parser around
RFC_3339 and Date.parse so nonexistent calendar dates are rejected rather than
accepted after Date.parse normalization. Use a strict RFC 3339 parser or schema
that validates calendar components without normalization, while preserving
acceptance of valid RFC 3339 timestamps.

In `@src/listener/protocol.ts`:
- Around line 341-346: Update the invalid-protocol error message in
validateTransportOrigin to accurately state that the configured API origin must
use HTTP or HTTPS, matching the accepted http: and https: schemes.

In `@src/mcp/server.ts`:
- Line 42: Update the MCP tool schema’s projectId validator to enforce the same
UUID pattern accepted by validateListenerProjectId, rather than only requiring a
non-empty string. Reuse the repository’s established UUID validation pattern and
preserve the existing MCP error-result handling.

In `@test/developer/client.test.ts`:
- Around line 24-25: Update the assertions in the session client test to use
object-shape assertions for owner and projectId instead of direct member access,
preserving checks against 'project' and PROJECT while avoiding
no-unsafe-member-access violations.

In `@test/listener/checkpoint.test.ts`:
- Around line 23-43: Guard the POSIX-specific permission checks with a
non-Windows platform condition: in test/listener/checkpoint.test.ts lines 23-43,
guard both the 0600 mode assertion and the 0644 rejection case; in
test/security/secret-file.test.ts line 16, guard the 0600 mode assertion. Keep
the remaining test behavior unchanged.

In `@test/listener/forwarding.test.ts`:
- Around line 88-92: Update the validateForwardDestination assertions to use a
numeric public IP address instead of example.com, avoiding DNS resolution while
preserving the expected allow-remote-forward and HTTPS policy errors.

Operations are console-only at API 1600403 and the pinned SDK has no
operations resource, so remove the operation commands, watcher, skill,
and status URLs. QuickLink cancel no longer offers an idempotency key
the route does not honor.
- reject empty idempotency keys, impossible calendar dates, oversized
  pages, and unchanged continuation cursors
- render event, webhook, delivery, and attempt details in human output
  with control characters escaped
- treat a missing MCP client binary as not configured, report MCP
shutdown failures, and align the listener project schema
- correct the listener origin error and remove DNS and POSIX-mode
  assumptions from tests

Restore dev's widget view/update commands, which the pinned SDK and API
still back, and update README, skills, and research docs for the

Merged dev (after #4) into this branch. The SDK pin is now 8803f05. webhook delivery attempt view reads the typed response field that landed in polymorfa/sdks#12, with a fallback for API deployments that predate the field. npm run verify passes (420 tests).
