SignalLab — Educational Signal Analyzer

An interactive signal visualization tool built with Scilab, Python Flask, and HTML/CSS. Users can visualize and analyze Sine, Cosine, Square, and Sawtooth waveforms in real time through a clean web interface — with live signal statistics and a Scilab-powered computation engine.

Submitted to the FOSSEE Scilab GUIVerse Hackathon 2026 — organised by IIT Bombay.

What it does

SignalLab allows students and engineers to visualize and analyze different types of signals interactively through a clean web interface. Users can control signal parameters in real time and instantly see the generated waveform along with key signal statistics.

Signals Supported

  • Sine Wave
  • Cosine Wave
  • Square Wave
  • Sawtooth Wave

Features

  • Interactive sliders for Frequency (1–50 Hz), Amplitude (1–10), and Duration (1–5s)
  • Real-time signal plot generated by Scilab
  • Signal statistics — Frequency, Period, Peak Amplitude, RMS Value
  • Clean dark minimalist web interface
  • Scilab-powered computation engine

Signal Computation Scilab 2026.1.0
Backend Server Python Flask
Frontend HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Requirements

  • Scilab 2026.1.0 — download from scilab.org
  • Python 3.x
  • Flask — pip install flask

How to Run

Step 1 — Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/sanjayy-r/SignalLab.git
cd SignalLab

Step 2 — Install dependencies:

pip install flask

Step 3 — Update Scilab path in app.py:

Open app.py and update this line to match your Scilab installation path:

SCILAB_PATH = r"C:\Program Files\scilab-2026.1.0\bin\scilab.bat"

Step 4 — Run the app:

python app.py

Step 5 — Open browser:

http://127.0.0.1:5000

How it Works

  1. User selects signal type and adjusts parameters via sliders
  2. Browser sends parameters to Flask backend
  3. Flask generates a Scilab script and runs it
  4. Scilab computes the signal and saves the plot as PNG
  5. Flask serves the PNG back to the browser
  6. Signal statistics are calculated and displayed
