Description

Fix recording bug for users

QA Instructions

Setup: get a FAT32 drive and an exFAT drive

  1. Use a USB stick, or create a virtual disk:
    • Open Disk Management as admin.
    • Choose Action → Create VHD and make it 8 GB.
    • Initialize the new disk.
    • Create a New Simple Volume, give it a drive letter, and format it FAT32.
    • Repeat for a second disk formatted exFAT.
  2. Confirm the format in PowerShell with Get-Volume . The FileSystemType column should say FAT32 or exFAT.
  3. Create a folder on each drive, e.g. X:\Recordings.
Reproduce on the current release (expected to fail)
  4. Install the current production build of Desktop.
  5. Set the recording path to X:\Recordings on the FAT32 drive and start recording.
  6. Expected: recording doesn't start. The node-obs log shows Unsafe recording path: .... Builds with 23273e2 show "Access denied to recording folder" instead.

Verify on the build with the fix (sl20 or later)
7. Install the test build.
8. Simple output mode: set the recording path to X:\Recordings on FAT32, record for about 30 seconds, then stop.

  • Expected: recording starts with no error.
  • The file appears in X:\Recordings.
  • The file plays back.
  1. Repeat step 8 in Advanced output mode.
  2. Repeat steps 8–9 with the exFAT drive.
  3. Repeat step 8 with the path set to the drive root, e.g. X:.

🟡 Changes recommended

The update description does not identify the recording failure, and the QA instructions omit steps to reproduce it, verify recording and playback, and check for regressions with the usual local recording folder.
