State Wise Distance Calculation

Hi,

Impressive effort by you people.

I am looking for a solution to give me distance traveled in each state during a 
trip. 

The distance calculation should be as close to border as much possible.
Google gives "Entering State" in driving direction, when a border is crossed.
But that can be way off from actual border crossing, if we are crossing border 
on a Highway which ends in the state after 50 miles.
These 50 miles cannot be separated from the distance in previous state.
