Server P7c: price floating rate notes in the runtime through convex::library - #150
P7c of the server plan. Floating rate notes price in the runtime through convex::library::execute: the frozen-projection discount margin at the observed clean mid.
Owner decisions (2026-10-24):
D31: mechanics are inferred from stored data only. Each comes from the note's floating_mechanics.overrides, then its rate index's declared conventions, then the note's own fields (frequency, day count, payment lag, calendar). A value none of them supplies is refused, and the reason names the field. No conventions live in code.
D32: a new versioned rate_index reference resource holds the administrator's publication rule. The engine expands it into the library's explicit publication entries.
D33: fixing keys are derived at each snapshot from the built contract, captured from the durable fixing store, with missing ones explicit.
D34:clean_price_mid, dirty_price_mid, accrued_interest and discount_margin_mid. Risk is a follow-up.
index_id, the identity of its fixings and of projection roles;
currency and kind (overnight or term);
fixing_source;
the index calendar pin and code;
publication_lag_business_days (at most 10) and publication_utc_seconds;
optional conventions: lookback, observation shift and lockout for overnight indices, or fixing offset and projection day count for term indices.
Conventions of the other kind are invalid.
BondContractTerms.floating_mechanics:{ index: ReferencePin, overrides }, omitted when absent, so stored records keep their exact bytes. The index pin is required because master lookups never substitute the latest version.
Admission: a FloatingRate note with floating terms, mechanics, and no cap or floor (those need an option model). Calls, puts and sinking funds stay refused. A nonzero payment lag (at most 30 business days) is admitted for floating rate notes only.
ResolvedBondReference.floating: the pinned index and index-calendar records, omitted when absent. validate_resolved_bond checks:
the pins;
effective and known-at scope;
calendar rule and code;
currency;
that the bond's index enum and the resource agree in kind.
that the note and its index do not pin two revisions of one calendar, because the result lineage records one revision per calendar.
Terms: the bullet's own native terms, built by the router's existing fixed-bond construction with a zero coupon. The adapter then sets:
an overnight or term coupon;
a constant spread over gearing 1 on face;
the contractual payment delay;
the index calendar for resets and observations.
Calendars: holiday tables for the bond and index calendars over the bond's life ±92 days, inside their declared coverage (P7b's converter).
Publications:fixing_requirements with the rule as the callback: index business-day lag at the UTC time.
Fixings: the snapshot's captured revisions for the index and source, converted with the core workflow's existing converter, now shared.
Call:LibraryOperation::Bond / SpreadInverse at the clean mid.
The discount role is collateral, on the configuration's discount recipe.
The projection is frn_reference_curve, which must be a stored recipe with Projection { index_id } equal to the resource's index_id.
The inverse controls come from the qualified floating corpus: -0.5..0.5, price 1e-9, parameter 1e-13, 128 iterations.
Refused with a reason:
caps and floors;
observation-shifted accrual (it needs an explicit accrual cutoff the terms do not carry);
term resets at another frequency;
a missing mechanic;
any library refusal, for example overnight accrual on ACT/ACT.
Snapshots and runtime
required_fixings: the plan's explicit keys plus each note's observations up to as_of whose expected publication is at or before known_at, at most MAX_SNAPSHOT_FIXINGS (1024). Later observations are forecast. A note the adapter cannot build adds none, and its valuation reports why.
The server now gives the runtime and configuration validation the durable redb fixing store that POST /api/v1/analytics/fixings writes. Before this, it passed an empty file repository. Engine runtime tests use the same store.
PRODUCT_MODELS lists the three models for plan validation, the worker and the valuator. Each instrument requests the measures its own model publishes (D29). Plans accept discount_margin_mid.
Consumed input versions include the rate index and its calendar. runtime_bond_quote maps discount_margin_mid. A book holding a floating rate note is refused by-book analytics, because there is no ytm_mid.
Fail-closed caveat: a due fixing missing from the store stays explicit, so the snapshot is incomplete and that generation fails for every instrument. This is the existing snapshot rule; per-instrument isolation would be a separate change.
Timing
A DM solve for a ten-year quarterly SOFR note takes well under a millisecond (the unit tests run in 0.01 s), so there is no per-plan cap beyond the 1,024-fixing bound. That allows about 16 quarterly overnight notes.
Tests
floating_valuation unit tests:
The library request matches the native workflow (PreparedBondCash::floating + solve_bond_spread) on the named SIFMA calendar and an independently computed publication schedule: DM within 1e-9 bp, and dirty and accrued within 1e-12.
The margin is 51.0 bp for 45 bp over SOFR, a 10 bp projection-over-discount basis and a 0.10 premium.
Mechanics precedence: a bond override wins, and a missing lockout is named. Observation shift and caps are refused.
Due fixings follow the publication rule: through Thursday at a Friday 15:00 cutoff, starting from the lookback of the current period. A missing due fixing fails the note with MissingMarketData.
tests/frns.rs:
A stored SOFR note (reference update, rate index, ACT/360 convention, configuration v2 with frn_reference_curve, two stored recipes, fixings in the redb store) prices through the repository, assembler, runtime and publication. The result is Complete with exactly its four measures, the snapshot holds exactly the due fixings, and the provenance names the rate index.
A missing due fixing is explicit and fails the generation. Without frn_reference_curve, every measure says so.
Plans accept discount_margin_mid and still refuse g_spread_mid.
Ports: mechanics bytes and admission, payment lag only for floating rate notes, mixed-kind overrides, the caps refusal, rate-index bounds and kinds, and floating resource pins, currency and kind.
QuantLib comparison has no floating coverage, so the fixtures are self-referential to the library and its native workflow, as the callables' are.
cargo test --locked --no-fail-fast for convex-ports, convex-ext-file, convex-ext-redb, convex-engine (lib 49 including floating_valuation, tests/frns.rs 3, callables 3, snapshots 11, runtime 17) and convex-server: all pass
…library
A rate-index reference resource holds the administrator's publication rule and
the conventions its notes follow. A note's floating_mechanics pin it and may
override each convention; a mechanic none of them supplies is refused by name.
Each snapshot derives the note's due fixings from its built contract and reads
them from the durable fixing store, which the server now gives the runtime.
The library's frozen-projection DM inverse publishes clean, dirty, accrued and
discount_margin_mid under convex-floating-dm-v1.

The pull request adds reference-data support and runtime valuation for eligible floating-rate notes. Snapshots capture due fixings from durable storage and publish clean price, dirty price, accrued interest, and discount margin.
Adds versioned rate-index definitions, floating mechanics, eligibility and resource validation, and exact pinned resource resolution for eligible notes.
Floating-note valuation model crates/convex-engine/src/floating_valuation.rs, crates/convex-engine/src/optional_valuation.rs, crates/convex-engine/src/pricing_router.rs, crates/convex-engine/src/lib.rs
Adds floating coupon construction and discount-margin valuation. Registers the floating model and measures, reuses calendar mapping, and tests conventions, fixings, and valuation parity.
Snapshots derive due fixing keys and route floating notes through valuation using durable fixings and stored curve recipes. Runtime model and measure validation, result reading, provenance, and supporting documentation are updated.
Adds integration coverage for successful valuation, missing fixings, missing projection curves, and plan validation. Test setup passes the durable fixing repository and releases handles before database reopen operations.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 0f4be
If a floating-rate note's bond calendar and its rate index's calendar share an ID at different versions, snapshot generation hits a recovery conflict instead of producing a clean per-measure failure. This is a narrow reference-data edge case, but it should be rejected at admission before merge.

Reject conflicting bond and index calendar revisions.
If the bond terms and floating index use the same calendar ID at different versions, consumed_versions returns TraitError::Conflict("incompatible consumed input revisions"). runtime/worker.rs::failed propagates this error before it can build the per-measure failure envelope.
Reject this mismatch in validate_floating_resources during admission. Keep the provenance kind as "calendar".
