Tapping a catalog card now pushes a thread that fills the display on Duo and iPad. Back restores the existing catalog and its scroll position. The catalog retains its OP card grid: two columns on compact/closed/actively folded devices, with more columns across the full available width when flat or on iPad.

Bumps Swiftchan to 1.3 (5) and updates contributor/testing docs. A cold hosted build plus the UI suite exceeded the former 25-minute step limit while tests were still passing; CI now allows 35 minutes within a 40-minute job. The favorites export check requires the actual Files save picker and an export control, checking the configured filename whenever its field is exposed. Captured hosted hierarchies show Browse exposing the filename without Save, and a folder exposing Save without the filename field.

Validation:

  • Full local suite: 95 unit tests and 21 UI tests pass; five native capture cases skip on ordinary phones. The final Files export query passes separately on iPhone Air / iOS 26.5.
  • Fresh iPhone 17 / iOS 26.5 checks pass for catalog → full-screen thread → scrolled Back and favorites export.
  • Real Duo 130 → 180 → 130 degree capture passes grid resizing, full-screen navigation, Back, and reply restoration after background activation, keeping the same app process through both hinge changes.
  • Closed Duo, iPad mini portrait, and iPad Pro landscape recordings pass full-screen geometry and scrolled Back. The Pro gallery/actions walkthrough passes too.
  • Four simulator MP4s pass full FFmpeg and native AVFoundation decoding; 17 native PNGs retain their original bytes. Local HTTP image and video byte ranges are verified.
  • Scoped SwiftLint has zero serious violations.

Hosted CI passed on the final commit: 95 unit tests and 21 UI tests passed, with five native capture cases skipped on the ordinary CI phone. The complete xcresult confirms 116 passed and zero failed. Review artifacts are in iphone-duo-review/2026-10-05-fullscreen/ in the parent workspace. The production application source tree is unchanged by the follow-up UI-test and CI commits.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The catalog now opens threads as full-screen views and restores the catalog when users return. Its grid adapts to supported Duo layouts. UI tests and device guidance describe the navigation, layout, and fold-transition checks.

Changes

Catalog and thread navigation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Catalog layout and thread navigation
swiftchan/Views/Boards/Catalog/CatalogView.swift, swiftchan/Views/Boards/Catalog/Thread/ThreadView.swift
The catalog removes workspace presentation and opens selected threads through navigation destinations. Its columns account for supported Duo layouts. ThreadView always displays its navigation title.
Navigation tests and device guidance
swiftchanUITests/BrowsingUITests.swift, AGENTS.md, docs/ipad-testing.md, docs/iphone-duo-testing.md, .github/workflows/build_and_test.yml, swiftchan.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj
UI tests check full-screen thread navigation, return to the catalog, scroll restoration, fold-state layouts, and background activation. The guidance documents updated device layouts, validation steps, export checks, and longer build/test timeouts. The app target’s Debug and Release build versions change from 4 to 5.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to aafad

CI could stop the test suite early if setup exceeds the five-minute margin, or leave too little time for result upload. Confirm the cold-run timing and a complete hosted run before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to aafad

The change is localized to navigation and responsive presentation. Selected threads retain the same board and thread identity, and the inspected changes do not add privileges or bypass controls. Remaining uncertainty concerns interruption and recovery behavior across supported devices.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected production change affects presentation of threads already reachable through the board catalog. It does not establish a new service, account, credential, or data-store authority. Thread-loading exposure remains bounded by the same selected board/thread inputs; this is a change-specific conclusion, not a complete assessment of the underlying loader.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The navigation destination remains inside the existing board-navigation stack and invokes the existing thread model with explicit identity. The changed export test drives the application through XCUIApplication and observes a filename field; it does not implement file access or grant export authority. CI retains contents: read.

🌐 Web query:

site:docs.github.com/en/actions/reference/workflows-and-actions/workflow-syntax jobs.<job_id>.timeout-minutes step timeout-minutes job timeout limits step timeout

💡 Result:

GitHub documents separate job and step timeouts:

- **Job:** `jobs.<job_id>.timeout-minutes` sets the maximum runtime before GitHub cancels the job; default is **360 minutes**. The runner’s own execution limit may cancel it sooner.
- **Step:** `jobs.<job_id>.steps[*].timeout-minutes` sets the maximum runtime before that step’s process is killed; maximum is **360 minutes** for GitHub-hosted and self-hosted runners, and the value must be a positive integer.

So, a step timeout is a per-step cap; it doesn’t extend the overall job timeout. ([docs.github.com](https://docs.github.com/en/actions/reference/workflows-and-actions/workflow-syntax?utm_source=openai))

Leave more than five minutes for work outside the test step.

If the other steps take more than five minutes, the 40-minute job timeout can cancel the job before the 35-minute test-step timeout expires. Measure the cold-cache duration of the non-test steps. Increase the job timeout if their combined duration can exceed five minutes.
