Traverse nested documentation sections.
A Section can contain child Section nodes, but both implementations only read direct children of the document. A linked document with a relevant nested heading cannot return that heading as a context piece. This can omit the relevant documentation or consume the token budget with its broader parent section.

Pass the resolved project name to the semantic search.
_graph_query resolves the scope with project_name = project or derive_project_name(...) and passes that value as project_name. The graph reads in build_context use project_name. The search closure uses the raw project instead.
If the caller omits project, project is None and semantic_code_search searches embeddings across every indexed project. A free-text target can then resolve to a qualified name owned by another project. graph_query.definition will not find that name under project_name, so the tool returns a slice with a foreign resolved value and pieces: [].
The CLI counterpart in codebase_rag/cli.py (Line 1410) passes the resolved name, which confirms the intended contract.
🐛 Proposed fix: scope the search to the resolved project

Apply the project filter to emulated callees.
CYPHER_GRAPH_CALLEES filters callee.qualified_name by $project_prefix, but this branch returns every outgoing CALLS target. A project function that calls an external dependency therefore appears in emulator context slices but not in production slices. Filter edge[4] by prefix before adding the row.

First full verification of this branch. Nothing had ever run against it: Ran the missing checks locally against
The type-check number is not comparable to Also probed
Two things I checked and did not file, recorded so nobody re-investigates them:
No defects found. Worth stating plainly given the sibling PR: #1548 yielded three reproduced runtime bugs the moment anyone looked, so "untested" and "broken" were indistinguishable from outside. For this branch the answer is the good one. Tracking the CI gap at #1582. |
Two CodeRabbit findings, both real. **A head SHA identifies a commit, not a pull request.** After a stack rebase several branches share a head -- issue #1582 records this trap explicitly, and warns that `gh run list --branch` returns other PRs' runs. Selecting by SHA alone let a run belonging to a different PR satisfy this gate. It now requires the run's `pull_requests[]` to name this PR, which is what `scripts/check_pr_gated.py` already enforces. **`gh api` returns only the first 100 results without `--paginate`.** A matching CI run on a later page read as "no run at this head", failing the gate on a PR that was genuinely tested -- a false negative, which trains people to override the gate and is worse than the hole it closes. One correction inside the fix, found by running it rather than reasoning about it: my first attempt used `--paginate --slurp`, and gh rejects `--slurp` alongside `--jq`. The query returned empty for EVERY PR, which would have made the gate fail closed on everything. Caught because all three test PRs returned the same wrong answer -- a uniform result across inputs that should differ is the tell. With `--jq` alone, gh applies the filter per page and concatenates, so `.workflow_runs[]` already yields every run across all pages. Verified live in all four directions after the change: #1819 owned by 1819 -> 1 pass #1551 owned by 1551 -> 1 pass #1549 owned by 1549 -> 0 FAIL (correct; never CI'd) #1551 claimed by 9999 -> 0 ownership genuinely discriminates The last row is the known-positive for the ownership filter: without it the check would pass for any PR number, which is indistinguishable from working.
Closes the hole in issue vitali87#1582's option 2: a required status check that is ABSENT does not block a merge. GitHub cannot fail a check nobody reported, so "required" means "must not be red", not "must be present". `All Checks Pass` is a job inside `ci.yml`. Whenever `ci.yml` does not run at a PR's head, that job does not exist there, the ruleset's only requirement is vacuously satisfied, and the PR reports mergeable with no tests having run. Measured on vitali87#1551 while writing this: mergeStateStatus: CLEAN mergeable: MERGEABLE checks present: 7 'All Checks Pass' among them: False Seven CodeQL/CodeRabbit checks, zero unit tests ever run on that branch, and GitHub says it is ready to merge. This workflow exists to be PRESENT where `ci.yml` is not. It carries no `branches` filter, so it reports on every pull request, and it fails unless a run of the `CI` workflow exists at the exact head SHA. That is the base-agnostic formulation vitali87#1582 settled on after two branch-filter theories were proposed and falsified: it does not depend on why any given run fired, only on whether one covers the commit being merged. Three details the issue's own caveats forced: * It queries `actions/runs?head_sha=`, not `gh run list --branch`. After a stack rebase several branches share a head, and the branch query returns runs belonging to OTHER PRs. * It matches the workflow `name` exactly, and prints every run found either way. A bare `| length == 0` cannot distinguish "no run at this head" from "the name did not match". * It asserts EXISTENCE only, not conclusion. Whether the run passed is `All Checks Pass`'s job; duplicating that here would disagree with it while a run is in flight. Validated in both directions against live data before committing: vitali87#1818 (base main, merged clean) -> 1 CI run at head -> pass vitali87#1547 (base main, in review) -> 1 CI run at head -> pass vitali87#1551 (base a feature branch) -> 1 CI run at head -> pass vitali87#1549 (head pushed minutes ago) -> 0 CI runs at head -> FAIL The last is correct and is the point: those commits are verified only by a local suite run. Adding this to the ruleset's required checks is a separate, deliberate step for the repo owner. Until then it reports without blocking, which is the right order -- a gate that starts blocking the moment it merges would block every PR currently open.

Replayed onto the rebased `feat/extract-inline` as the top layer of the cascading rebase. The branch's 17 commits (4 of them merges of main and of the layer below) are squashed into their net diff: the merge commits carried their ancestors' work, which is what made every PR in this stack show its parents' changes in its own diff. Resolved against the rebased base: - `constants/cli.py`, `evals/cgr_graph.py`: unions, both sides' additions. - `mcp/tools.py`: the new `_context_tool` placed BEFORE `_reingest_for_contract` rather than after, so the latter is not cut in half -- appending split the method on the two layers below. - Dropped a duplicated zero-arg `_reingest_for_contract` signature the branch carried; all four call sites pass `project_name` as main requires. `context` is classified in `_READS_THE_GRAPH`, NOT exempted into `_NOT_GRAPH_READERS` like move/extract/inline. It is a pure reader routed through `_graph_query`: a partial graph would silently drop callers, callees and reaching tests from the slice and spend the budget on a quietly incomplete context, so it must refuse rather than be excused. Verified: 242 passed across test_context_slice and test_mcp_project_scoping.
Brings the cascade-rebased result (feat/1536-context-slice-rebased, e4adb72) onto this branch as a fast-forwardable merge, so the PR's head advances without rewriting published history. The tree of this commit is IDENTICAL to e4adb72 -- verified with `git diff --stat e4adb72`, which is empty. The 51 merge conflicts were not hand-resolved: the whole tree was taken from the rebased branch, which is the version that was built layer by layer on the rebased stack and tested. Why this shape. #1551 is the top of a five-layer stack that was never a registered gh stack: hand-based branches with the base set in the PR form, so every layer's diff carried its ancestors' commits. Rebasing the bottom (#1548) cascaded through move-op (#1549) and extract-inline (#1550) to here. The layers below were force-pushed; this one takes the merge route instead. Contents, as committed on the rebased branch: - `context`, a graph-ranked token-budgeted slice (issue #1536). - Classified in `_READS_THE_GRAPH`, NOT exempted into `_NOT_GRAPH_READERS` like move/extract/inline: it is a pure reader routed through `_graph_query`, and on a partial graph it would silently drop callers, callees and reaching tests from the slice and spend the budget on a quietly incomplete context. - Four `_reingest_for_contract` call sites pass `project_name`, as main's guarded helper requires (PR #1547). Verified on the identical tree: 242 passed across test_context_slice and test_mcp_project_scoping; ruff check and format clean.
