feat(media): list the media library with WordPress DataViews - #560
The Media screen is a DataViews list like Posts and Content Types: a grid of cards from 640px and a list on phones, with the search, filters, sort and page kept in the address.
The server sorts by title, date added, date modified or author, and sends each author's avatar. Filters cover the author, both dates and WordPress's five file type groups.
The row menu offers View, Edit…, Rename… and Permanently delete…, in WordPress's words. Edit… keeps Cancel and Save in view while its fields scroll. Each dialog closes on Save and shows a toast.
When a dialog closes, the focus goes back to what opened it, on the same file, even after the list reloads.
The media dialogs and the posts Move to trash and Permanently delete confirms close only themselves when their write ends, so a dialog opened since stays open.
The plugin SDK passes on the file type icons, Tooltip and Popover.
Why
The old Media screen lost its view on a reload, offered filters the server ignored, had no sort and showed failures inside its dialogs. A write that finished late could close a dialog opened on the same row since.
Testing Instructions
Open Media at 1280 by 900. Filter by Type, Documents, sort by Date modified, then reload. The view stays.
Open Edit… on a picture. Cancel and Save stay in view, Tab reaches the scrolling fields, and End shows Dimensions. Save: the toast reads "Media file updated." and the focus returns to the card you opened it from.
Sign in as an author in a phone sized window. Tapping a file another account uploaded opens it in a new tab.
Summary by CodeRabbit

Summary
Media API and author data frontend/src/media/api.ts, internal/server/media.go, internal/server/media_avatar_test.go, internal/server/content_avatar_test.go, frontend/src/test/media-api.test.ts
Media responses and queries now include author data, sorting, and filter parameters. Media edits fetch the current item version before submitting changed fields. The server returns author avatars with listed media.
Media fields and localization frontend/src/media/fields.tsx, frontend/src/media/format.ts, frontend/src/media/media.css, frontend/src/test/media-fields.test.tsx, frontend/src/test/date-cells.test.tsx, languages/*, docs/src/content/docs/contributing/*
Media fields display thumbnails, descriptions, dates, author details, and file metadata. File-size and dimension formats and media-type groups use localized strings. Translation catalogues and contribution guidance include contextual size-unit symbols.
DataViews listing and picker frontend/src/media/MediaScreen.tsx, frontend/src/media/MediaLibraryPicker.tsx, frontend/src/router.tsx, frontend/src/test/media-list-view.test.tsx, frontend/src/test/media-picker.test.tsx, frontend/src/test/media-library.test.tsx
The media library and picker use view state for search, sorting, filters, page size, and pagination. Loading states retain existing results while requests run.
Media actions and dialogs frontend/src/media/actions.tsx, frontend/src/media/MediaModals.tsx, frontend/src/media/focusBack.ts, frontend/src/media/FieldsPane.tsx, frontend/src/lists/*, frontend/src/test/media-actions.test.tsx, frontend/src/test/media-upload.test.tsx, frontend/src/test/ownership-screens.test.tsx, test/e2e/tests/media.spec.ts
Media actions include View, Edit, Rename, and Delete. Dialog writes are serialized per item; focus returns to the originating list item or the list region. Tests cover permissions, write results, and focus behavior.
Media documentation and configuration docs/src/content/docs/guides/media.md, docs/src/content/docs/self-hosting/configuration.md
The guides describe media listing, editing, deletion, date formatting, and author-avatar settings.

Explanation
The changes support #556 or #540. Media documentation, translations, SDK exports, server changes, frontend tests, and end-to-end tests support the media library requirements. Post confirmation changes and tests implement #540. No unrelated production change is demonstrated.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
#556 requirements are implemented by the Media DataViews screen, URL-backed filters and sorting, responsive layouts, media fields and icons, server query handling, author avatars, row actions, dialogs, toasts, focus restoration, and automated tests. #540 remains unmet in its specified shared-hook implementation. frontend/src/content/actions.tsx and frontend/src/media/MediaModals.tsx still import useCloseWhileOpen from frontend/src/lists/closeWhileOpen.ts, and that local hook file remains present. The PR therefore does not adopt the godmin close check or move all users to it.
Resolution
Update the godmin dependency to the release that exports the shared close check. Move the post and media confirmation users to that exported hook. Delete frontend/src/lists/closeWhileOpen.ts. Keep tests that dismiss a busy confirmation, open a newer dialog on the same row, and verify that the newer dialog remains open after the earlier write completes.

# GodMin
Gopherium's admin kit
GodMin is the base layer for a React admin application built on the WordPress Design System. It handles the groundwork such an application needs before its first screen renders: loading the design tokens, ordering the CSS, keeping overlays on top, and preparing your bundler and your test runner.
The design system already ships the tokens, the primitives, the data screens and the page chrome. Inside WordPress, the glue underneath them comes from WordPress itself. An application that is not WordPress gets nothing, and ends up hand-writing that glue. GodMin is the glue as a package, and nothing more.
Documentation
## Install
pnpm add @gopherium/godmin
The design system packages are peer dependencies, so your application resolves and pins them. GodMin never redistributes them.
## Setup
Import the stylesheet once at your entry point, then mount `AdminRoot` around your tree.
import '@gopherium/godmin/base.css'
import { AdminRoot } from '@gopherium/godmin'
createRoot(document.getElementById('app')!).render(
<AdminRoot>
<YourApp />
</AdminRoot>,
)
That is the whole host setup. See the overview for what those two lines do for you.
## What is in it

## Before your first build
Duplicate packages break the application, and nothing points at the cause. Build configuration covers it.
Two copies of React throw on the first hook. Two copies of `@wordpress/theme` render unthemed components with no error. Spread `godminDedupe` into `resolve.dedupe` and add the `godminSingleCopy()` plugin.
## Design system versions
Peer ranges are longhand and single window, for example `>=0.23.0 <0.24.0`. The window moves with each design system release train and never widens, so no release accepts two breaking generations at once. `SUPPORTED_WPDS` exports the window this build was tested against.
## Status
Still 0.x, so minor releases may break. See the CHANGELOG for what each release adds. `@wordpress/admin-ui` remains the thing to watch: GodMin does not wrap it, because a kit that wraps an API still moving adds a release hop to every upstream fix.
## License
Apache-2.0, see LICENSE.
The design system packages this kit expects you to install are GPL-2.0-or-later. GodMin declares them as peer dependencies, so your application resolves them and GodMin never redistributes them. Your built bundle combines both, and is conveyed under the terms of the WordPress packages. GodMin's own source stays reusable under plain Apache-2.0. Summary
The PR replaces the media library with responsive WordPress DataViews, adds saved search and filters, and updates file actions and dialogs.
The latest change fixes the previous keyboard-access issue: the Edit fields pane now watches its own size as well as its content, so shortening the window updates its scrolling label and Tab stop. A regression test covers the height-change case.
No outstanding findings remain. The focused code and test changes were inspected; tests were not run.
The media library keeps its view in the address and shows files in a responsive list.
Media file dialogs save, rename and delete files while returning focus to the same file.
The editor’s media picker can sort and filter files before adding one.
🔴 High risk · Fetching the latest version immediately before media PATCHes could let stale edit forms overwrite newer metadata from another session.
Replaces the Media screen with a WordPress DataViews list offering search, sorting, file type, author and date filters, with state kept in the address, plus Edit, Rename and permanent delete dialogs that restore focus to the opener. No issues found.
