fix(watcher): resolve the pod of every workload kind for ContainerProfile scans - #471
getPod only resolved a pod for profiles whose related kind is Pod; every other kind got nil, nil, so the ScanCP command for a Deployment, StatefulSet or DaemonSet carried no pod and kubevuln pulled the image without the workload's imagePullSecrets. The pod resolution that hasMatchingPod already did for those kinds (workload through the dynamic client, selector, revision and owner checks) is now matchingPod, which returns the pod; hasMatchingPod keeps its answer from it and the handler loads the pod through podForProfile, which picks getPod for a bare Pod and matchingPod otherwise. When skipProfilesWithoutInstances is on, a non-Pod kind is resolved twice per event (the skip check and the load); I left the skip semantics untouched rather than fold the two, happy to do that if you prefer.
How to Test
go test -race ./watcher/
TestHandleContainerProfileEvents_WorkloadPodCarriesPullSecrets: a ReplicaSet profile whose pod has an imagePullSecrets entry produces a command with that pod. On main the command has no pod. The existing hasMatchingPod cases are unchanged.
Scan commands for workload profiles now include the matching pod, allowing its image pull secrets to be included.
Workload profiles now resolve only pods owned by the profiled workload, including pods managed through ReplicaSets or Jobs, avoiding incorrect matches when selectors overlap.
Pod lookup failures are logged and skipped. Profiles without a matching pod are skipped only when skipping profiles without instances is enabled.

Walkthrough
The watcher now resolves a matching pod for workload profiles and uses it for filtering and scan command arguments. Pod resolution checks workload ownership, including controller chains for Deployments and CronJobs. Tests cover matching workloads, ownership, missing pods, and scan command contents.
podForProfile and matchingPod return a matching pod or nil. Resolution checks pod presence, workload ownership, and controller chains. Tests cover supported workload profiles, selector expressions, overlapping selectors, and missing pods.
Use the resolved pod in scan commands watcher/containerprofilewatcher.go, watcher/containerprofilewatcher_test.go
The event handler reuses the resolved pod for the no-instance filter and command arguments. A test checks that a ReplicaSet profile’s command includes its pod and image-pull secret.
kubescape/operator#469 — The change resolves pods for non-Pod workload profiles and includes the pod in scan command arguments with its image-pull secrets.

Explanation
Issue #469 requires ScanCP to receive the matching pod, including imagePullSecrets, for workload kinds beyond Pod. The PR adds podForProfile and matchingPod. Non-Pod profiles use selector, revision, and ownership checks to resolve the pod. The handler places the resolved pod in the scan command. Tests cover workload pod resolution and verify a ReplicaSet pod with image-pull secrets. The implementation also retains the existing bare-Pod path and hasMatchingPod behavior.

Add handler-path pod assertions for Deployment, StatefulSet, and DaemonSet profiles.
The new pod-attachment test covers only ReplicaSet. The relist test asserts only command names, and the hasMatchingPod tests assert only booleans. A change that makes podForProfile return no pod for one of the other workload kinds would still emit a command, and no test would fail. Those workloads would then scan without imagePullSecrets, which is the failure issue #469 describes.
Add a table-driven test, or extend the relist test, that checks cmd.Args[utils.ArgsPod] for one profile of each workload kind. Each case should assert that the pod is non-nil and carries the expected name and imagePullSecrets.

minimal, and validate.

Do not use an arbitrary Deployment pod for scan credentials.
During a rollout, matchingPod can return a pod from either ReplicaSet because it checks only the Deployment selector. The profile data does not provide a Deployment revision or image constraint in the inspected path. The selected pod can therefore supply the wrong ImagePullSecrets to ScanCP.
Constrain the lookup with an identity that ties the profile to its ReplicaSet, revision, or image before passing the pod to ScanCP.

Update matchingPod and its use before ScanCP so the selected pod is tied to the
profile’s ReplicaSet, revision, or image identity, rather than matching only the
Deployment selector. First establish which identity is available in this path;
if none is available, do not pass an arbitrary Deployment pod’s ImagePullSecrets
to ScanCP.

The missing credentials are real: the previous watcher only attached Pods, while the scan handler obtains registry credentials from ArgsPod. This reuses the existing workload matching rules and carries the resulting pod into the command. No confirmed blockers found.
The normal Deployment profile path is labeled with its ReplicaSet and uses the owner/UID check, so the selector-only rollout concern in the existing thread is not established for that path. The repeated lookup when orphan filtering is enabled is a nonblocking efficiency/race limitation.
The new ReplicaSet command test passed in an isolated Go 1.27 container. The CI watcher job timed out in TestPodWatch/Adding_pods after its local API stopped responding; I did not establish the underlying cause. Other workload command paths and an end-to-end private-registry scan were not tested locally.
#470 is an open alternative for the same issue, not a merged or explicitly superseding fix. #313 accepted the earlier Pod-only fix; #419 established owner/revision filtering retained here. Reviewed against main at dc59e06.

I am correcting my earlier approval: I missed that the selector-only branch also handles Job profiles. With a Job that uses a manual selector overlapping another controller's pod, the first matching pod can belong to that other controller. Its imagePullSecrets then feed the scan, which can fail authentication or use the wrong workload's credentials. Please verify Job owner name and UID before returning the pod, and add an overlapping-selector regression test. This is the same ownership issue raised on #470.
The normal Deployment-generated path uses ReplicaSet profiles, as noted previously; that does not address the Job case. The new ReplicaSet test passes, but does not cover it.
A Job with a manual selector, or any pod carrying the same labels, matched the
selector-only branch, so the scan could take another workload's imagePullSecrets. A pod
now has to name the workload as its owner, through its ReplicaSet for a Deployment and
its Job for a CronJob. The handler resolves the pod once per event for both the
no-instance filter and the command.

Thanks for the second look and for catching the Job case, that was a real hole.
Pushed as a separate commit:
ownsPod: a pod is returned only when it names the workload as its owner, through its ReplicaSet for a Deployment and its Job for a CronJob. The selector alone no longer qualifies a pod, so a manual Job selector or a stray pod with the same labels cannot lend its imagePullSecrets to the scan.
TestPodForProfile_OnlyReturnsAPodTheWorkloadOwns: a Job and a Deployment whose selector overlaps another ReplicaSet's pod and a stray pod; the Job gets its own pod, with the Job's pod gone it gets none. The last case fails on the previous commit.
The relist test now checks the resolved pod of each kind, and the two Deployment fixtures carry the ReplicaSet in between.
One pod lookup per event, used by both the no-instance filter and the command.
On TestPodWatch: the CI stall is the same one I hit once locally with this branch (podwatcher_test.go:145, same as the run on #470); alone and on a rerun of the whole package it passes, with and without the race detector.
I saw #470 after opening this one; if you would rather take that one, happy to close here.

The update addresses my Job ownership finding: it checks owner kind, name and UID before using a pod, and adds an overlapping-selector test with distinct credentials. It also reuses the resolved pod for the skip check and scan. I reviewed the changes since my previous review; the latest CI checks pass. No remaining confirmed blockers from this review. The new head was reviewed against main at dc59e06; I did not rerun tests locally for this update.
kubevuln v0.3.580 includes kubescape/kubevuln#1232: the storage conflict
retry now reads the full object after a conflict, so objects whose
metadata resourceVersion drifted under old storage can be written again.
On v0.3.571 about 78% of scans failed with "failed to update CVE summary
manifest in storage after 8 attempts" (kubescape/kubevuln#1231).
operator v0.2.208 includes kubescape/operator#471: container profile
scans now resolve the workload's pod, so registry credentials are sent
for Deployments, StatefulSets and other non-Pod workloads. With v0.2.181
those scans were sent without credentials and private images failed with
UNAUTHORIZED.
Both releases also add API authentication that needs chart wiring the
1.40.5 subchart does not have (POD_NAMESPACE, token RBAC), and without it
they exit at startup. Set KS_API_AUTH_DISABLED=true on both until the
chart provides it, keeping the chart's default CA_MAX_VULN_SCAN_ROUTINES
since the kubevuln env list replaces it.
