Server P10b-ii: shared checkpoint results (G27); Live pins its inputs once per activation (D56) - #161
P10b-ii: shared checkpoint results (G27), and Live resolves its pinned inputs once per activation (D56, G22). This is the reorder the owner approved after P10b-i.
G27, whole-checkpoint copies.
RuntimeCheckpoint.results and outbox are now Arc<[PublishedValuation]>, so copying a checkpoint no longer copies every result with its last-good value.
Before, accept made that copy for each Live quote, and calculate, flush_outbox and the published results copied them again each tick.
The code that saves a checkpoint is unchanged: it still copies, changes and saves, so a failed save still leaves the actor's checkpoint as it was.
Serde's rc feature (now on in the workspace) stores Arc<[T]> as a plain array, so stored checkpoints keep the same JSON.
The runtime's shared results hold the same Arc. runtime_results() still returns a Vec, copied when a caller reads it.
D56, Live pinned inputs.
A Live runtime resolves its exact pricing configuration and pinned references once per accepted activation, at the first snapshot, and reuses them at every tick.
This covers the issuer, calendar, convention and rate-index records.
The SnapshotAssembler::pin / PinnedInputs pair holds them, keyed on the activation revision, the configuration pin and the instrument pins.
A refresh or restart that selects another activation re-resolves them.
Every one of these records is an exact pinned version, so nothing they hold changes while a selection holds. MarketSnapshot::new still checks them at each snapshot's own cutoff, and snapshot content is unchanged.
Quotes, fixings and stored curve revisions are still read at each cutoff (P9b).
A Live accept no longer reads the active configuration or captures a selection for each quote. The runtime keeps the selection it accepted until the engine's activation refresh or a restart applies another.
Before, a quote also picked up an activation that the engine had committed but the runtime had not accepted, even though the activation's outcome said restart_required: true.
Now such an activation waits for a retry of the same activation, or a restart, as that outcome already said.
Captured and Replay still read the active selection at each event.
RUNTIME.md and CONFIGURATION.md describe both changes.
Tests
runtime.rs::live_ticks_reuse_the_pinned_references: a reference repository that counts exact-version reads sees one read at start and none across five Live ticks. Before this change it saw six.
An activation committed without the engine leaves the next quote under configuration version 1 and activation revision 1.
The engine's retry of that activation refreshes the runtime, which then values under version 2.
Before this change, the quote applied version 2.
An activation committed while the engine is stopped, as the offline CLI does, applies at the next start. Restore reads the active selection and refreshes to it, so the first quote after the restart values under version 3.
Both tests fail when their behaviour is reverted (checked).
The Live setup of live_override_expiry_... moved into the helpers live_selection and live_engine, which both Live activation tests use.

live_tick (one bond): 361 µs to 292 µs. The tick no longer reads the configuration or references, and it no longer deep-copies results.
snapshot/assemble 1 / 16 / 256: 32.1 µs / 342 µs / 4.95 ms became 31.3 µs / 310 µs / 4.43 ms. That path is unchanged in this PR, so this is the machine's run-to-run drift (up to 10%).
At 256 bonds, a 512-quote burst takes 41.6 ms, down from 286 ms.
The bench does not report ticks per burst, so it can't split the time between ticks and admissions any further.
Bursts of 64 at 256 stay tick-bound, because each tick still revalues all 256 bonds (D55).
The 1-bond case is about 10% slower in both runs, while one tick is 19% faster. This is an inference from the arithmetic, not a measured tick count.
In Server P10b-i: Live ticks conflate queued quotes (D54) #160 the bench's sender produced quotes faster than the runtime admitted them (about 3 µs each). Conflation drained the whole burst into one tick: 361 + 64 × 3 ≈ 553 µs, against 544 measured.
Admission now no longer copies the checkpoint, so the runtime catches up with the sender mid-burst, and a burst of 64 takes two ticks: 2 × 294 ≈ 588 µs, against 588 and 603 measured.
Under sustained load the queue does not empty, so this affects burst latency at small N, not capacity. A probe that counts ticks per burst would confirm it.
What the bench does not show.
It composes no ConfigurationUseCases, so the saving from Live accept no longer reading the active configuration for each quote is not measured. The per-tick saving from the pinned configuration and references is measured, in live_tick.
The remaining O(N) work for each quote is the plan-key scan in accept (actor.rs:469), plus the per-instrument reference and last-good scans in worker.rs. Both are G25, the next approved step.
Verification
Each item ran in WSL after the last edit to code it compiles. The two crates convex-ports and convex-ext-redb were tested before two final engine-only edits; neither depends on convex-engine.
cargo fmt --check passes.
tools/assurance/check.py passes with and without --base 8e9896b0.
Clippy -D warnings passes on convex-ports, convex-engine, convex-server and convex-ext-redb (all targets).
Tests, all with --locked:
convex-engine: 199 passed, 1 ignored.
convex-server: 267 passed, including live_ingress.
convex-ports and convex-ext-redb: all passed.
Both new tests fail when their behaviour is reverted.
Not run natively on Windows; CI's "Server on Windows" covers it.
… once per activation (D56)
- RuntimeCheckpoint results and outbox are Arc<[PublishedValuation]>, so copying a
checkpoint no longer copies every result; stored JSON is unchanged (serde rc).
- A Live runtime resolves its pricing configuration and pinned references once per
accepted activation and reuses them at every tick; quotes and fixings are still
read at each cutoff.
- A Live accept no longer reads the active configuration per quote; an activation the
runtime has not accepted waits for the engine's refresh or a restart.
256 bonds, bursts of 512: 1,787 -> 12,300 quotes/s.

Live runtimes now retain accepted configuration and reuse pinned inputs across snapshots. Runtime checkpoint results and outbox use shared immutable slices. The documentation and tests describe and verify these changes.

Checkpoint results and outbox use shared immutable Arc slices through initialization, recovery, publication, and reservation. The results accessor returns a Vec. Serde enables its rc feature.
A restarted Live runtime can continue pricing with an old configuration. Fix activation recovery before merging.

Apply the active selection when restoring a Live runtime.
When a restart-required activation commits while Live is running, Actor::restore restores the old checkpoint.configuration_activation instead of loading the current active selection. Live quotes then skip current_configuration(), so the restarted runtime can continue pricing under the old selection. This violates CONFIGURATION.md, which states that the next start applies the new selection.

Restore already reads the active selection and refreshes to it; the D56 test now
covers that path, which a Live quote no longer reaches.
