Vital is an open source virtual lab environment where students can have their own secluded virtual private cloud (VPC) of machines. Vital is built using Django for the web front end and Postgresql for the backend. Vital supports virtualization with Ubuntu/XEN.

The Vital system provides a user interface for students to login and register for courses that are pre-defined by faculty. Each course may provide one or more Virtual Machines with the required software/tools installed for the students to use. The Vital system also provides an interface to these VMs.
