Signature changes involving grouped Go parameters can map or rename the wrong parameter. This is bounded to that syntax but should be corrected before relying on the feature for such declarations.

Handle grouped Go parameter declarations as separate slots. A declaration such as a, b int produces one _Param; _identifier_in records only a, while _rendered_old retains the full declaration as one rendered item. A signature change can map later positional specs to the wrong argument and cannot rename a and b independently. Expand grouped declarations into independently rendered parameters, or refuse rewrites for grouped Go declarations.

RetriggerConfidence Score: 3/5

The change must not merge until Python positional-only and keyword-only parameter semantics are preserved.

Findings

  1. P1 Receiver separator moved ▶
  2. P1 Varargs keyword-only flag missing ▶

Summary

  • Python method rewrites can move the positional-only separator and change which arguments callers may pass by keyword.
  • Python parameters following *args are not preserved as keyword-only, allowing downstream mapping to build invalid calls.

Merge safety

Not safe to merge until both Python signature-preservation issues are corrected.

P1 Receiver separator moved

For def f(self, /, x), the positional-only boundary already includes self, but this inserts / at receivers + boundary. The rebuilt definition becomes def f(self, x, /):, changing x from positional-or-keyword to positional-only. Valid calls such as f(self, x=1) can therefore fail after a signature edit, so this must be corrected before merging.

Artifacts

Evidence from the check

  • This authored narrow script parses `def f(self, /, x)`, invokes the changed restoration function, and asserts the observed misplaced separator behavior.

Command output from the check

  • The direct run exited 0 and shows `after: self, x, /` and `rebuilt: def f(self, x, /):`, confirming the reported defect.

Command output from the check

  • The captured source lines show the receiver count at line 171 and insertion at `receivers + boundary` on line 177, identifying the double-counted offset.

P1 Varargs keyword-only flag missing

A named variadic parameter such as *args does not enable keyword_only, so def f(*args, flag) records flag as positional. Downstream signature and call-site mapping can then supply flag positionally, where Python consumes that value in args and leaves the required keyword-only argument unset. This must be corrected before merging.

Artifacts

Evidence from the check

  • The authored Python script parses `def f(*args, flag)` and calls the actual PR `_parameters` implementation, demonstrating the candidate at runtime.

Command output from the check

  • The executed Git command shows `signature_params.py` is absent from the parent revision, so there is no pre-PR equivalent implementation to run.

Command output from the check

  • The executed isolated Tree-sitter run prints target source lines and returns `flag` with `keyword_only=False`, confirming the defect.

Comments Outside Diff

These findings sit on lines the diff does not cover, so they could not be posted inline. Each one leaves this list once its file changes.

  • P1 Receiver is double-counted when restoring Python positional-only separator ▶

    • Bug
      • For def f(self, /, x), the changed code calculates a positional-only boundary of 1 and one receiver, then inserts / at index 2. The actual execution rebuilt the signature as def f(self, x, /): instead of retaining def f(self, /, x):.
    • Cause
      • _positional_only_count already counts self as the leading parameter before /, but _restore_positional_only adds receivers again in rendered.insert(receivers + boundary, "/") at line 177.
    • Fix
      • Insert at the positional-only boundary without adding the receiver count, while retaining appropriate mapping validation for receiver-indexed specs.
  • P1 Parameters following args are not marked keyword-only ▶

    • Bug
      • For def f(*args, flag):, _parameters returns flag with keyword_only=False. Python binds flag by keyword only, so downstream signature mapping can treat it as positional.
    • Cause
      • Lines 106-108 enable keyword_only only for Tree-sitter's bare keyword_separator node. The grammar represents named variadic *args as list_splat_pattern, followed directly by flag, so this branch never runs.
    • Fix
      • When a Python list_splat_pattern (*args) is encountered, retain it as the variadic parameter and set keyword_only=True for subsequent parameters; do not do this for dictionary_splat_pattern alone unless its semantics are separately intended.
