Merge once https://allthings.dev/mcp answers an MCP POST itself, without a redirect. Until then a client that doesn't follow the redirect on a POST fails, so this must not merge earlier.

What

Every client now defaults to https://allthings.dev, with MCP at /mcp. Each client has one value that sets this:

  • CLI: siteOrigin in cli/src/config.ts is now "https://allthings.dev", so defaultEndpoint is https://allthings.dev/mcp. I dropped the allthingsweb.dev | allthings.dev union type and the "flip this later" note. ALLTHINGS_MCP_URL and ATW_MCP_URL still override it.
  • Agent plugin: plugins/allthings/mcp.json now points the allthings server at https://allthings.dev/mcp. I bumped plugin.json from 0.2.0 to 0.2.1 so hosts see a new version and update installed copies.
  • Fixtures script: bun run fixtures in core/ now defaults to https://allthings.dev/mcp.
  • Tests and docs that follow from the above:
    • cli/tests/config.test.ts now pins the origin to allthings.dev.
    • The CLI's timeout message test and its fake data use allthings.dev.
    • cli/README.md drops the "stays on allthingsweb.dev" paragraph.
    • The comment in cli/src/schemas.ts uses the new name and host.
    • app/tests/agent-plugin.test.ts is the plugin's only test, and it pins the URL, so it changes here too. It is the one file under app/ this PR touches.

The CLI and the plugin don't call /api, so no client needs that path. This PR doesn't cut a release. A CLI release is a separate tag, described below.

After merge

  1. CLI: run cd cli && bun run src/index.ts events with no ALLTHINGS_MCP_URL set. It should list the upcoming evenings, and bun run src/index.ts --help should give https://allthings.dev/mcp as the default.

  2. MCP endpoint: POST a list_events call straight to https://allthings.dev/mcp. It should answer without a redirect:

    curl -s https://allthings.dev/mcp \
      -H 'content-type: application/json' \
      -H 'accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
      -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"list_events","arguments":{}}}'
  3. Plugin: reinstall or update the allthings plugin in Codex or ChatGPT from this repository's marketplace. Its MCP server should connect to https://allthings.dev/mcp, and list_events should work.

  4. Released CLI binaries: they keep the endpoint they were built with until the next release is tagged from main. Steps in the cutover notes: bump cli/package.json, then tag.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The CLI now uses https://allthings.dev as its site origin and /mcp as its MCP endpoint. Related endpoint references, tests, and fixtures use the updated domain. The allthings plugin version changes to 0.2.1.

Changes

MCP endpoint update

Layer / File(s) Summary
CLI origin and endpoint contract
cli/src/config.ts, cli/src/schemas.ts, cli/README.md, cli/tests/config.test.ts
The CLI configuration sets siteOrigin to https://allthings.dev. The schema comment, README, and configuration test name the updated origin and MCP endpoint.
Endpoint references and plugin metadata

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 57929

The updated CLI and plugin cannot perform MCP operations against the new endpoint yet. Wait to merge the endpoint switch until the production POST check succeeds.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 57929

This is a bounded destination change rather than a new privileged interface. The main risk is switching clients before the new host successfully accepts MCP POST requests. An earlier reported rejection remains unresolved; CLI and fixture endpoint overrides provide limited recovery.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: Production POST readiness remains unresolved for the new default destination. The runbook requires a successful live MCP check before switching clients, while an earlier inspection recorded HTTP 405. If that condition persists when these defaults ship, ordinary CLI requests fail and plugin consumers target an incompatible endpoint. CLI and fixture overrides limit disruption, but the plugin configuration supplies only the new URL.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The cutover affects consumers using the changed defaults and plugin configuration. An incompatible destination can interrupt public-data workflows across those consumers; the inspected requests do not demonstrate administrative, tenant-write, or secret-management authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The HTTPS destination changes, but the CLI retains its existing HTTP-error and response-schema checks. Those controls reject incompatible responses; they do not verify that production deployment has completed or that the new host is serving the intended application.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — A POST rejection on the fixture generator's initial read stops execution before fixture writes. Later partial-write exposure already exists in the unchanged sequential workflow and is not established as newly introduced by this destination change.
