Conclusion: on the v5 base this change does not fix what #14392/#14393 reported β it silences two dedicated fleet-report classes instead. The reporting hive is on v6, and the real gap is a missing forward-port.
Evidence (read at origin/v5 = b0b665356 and this head 6c2daa2e):
src/pkg/fleetreport/runtime.go:184and:187already route these exact messages toClassSHAPollCommitMsgUnavail(added by #14149,77492c302) andClassGitHubFetchTransient(#14275), bothLogFed: true, componentgithub-client, severity low. So on v5 these WARNs are not filed asunclassified_error_repeated; they get their own class.src/pkg/fleetreport/slogfeed/slogfeed.go:108-111:feed()returns onIsBenignMessage(msg)before it callsLogFedClass(msg). Adding the two messages toIsBenignMessage(fleetreport.go:788-792) therefore makes both classes unreachable from the log feed. Nothing else observes them βgrep ClassSHAPollCommitMsgUnavail src --include='*.go'outside tests hits onlyruntime.go. The new test passes precisely because the dedicated-class observation no longer fires.- #14393's evidence table says
hive commit fcf0e78/5.186.4-1494.fcf0e7887is onorigin/v6only, andgit merge-base --is-ancestor 77492c302 fcf0e78is false β that build predates #14149's classification. That is why the live report saysunclassified_error_repeated: the fix already exists on v5 and has not reached v6.
What I'd suggest instead: forward-port #14149 (and #14275's ClassGitHubFetchTransient) to v6, which is the branch the reporter runs, and leave IsBenignMessage alone on v5. If the intent is that the dedicated classes should also stop self-reporting, that is a change to those class specs in runtime.go (and a reversal of #14149's intent), not an IsBenignMessage entry.
Flagging for a maintainer: as written this would regress v5's #14149 classification; I'd recommend not landing it on v5 in this form. I have not changed anything.

Conclusion: this is aimed at the wrong branch and, on v5, it would silence two fleet-report classes that were added on purpose. I'd not land it as-is.
What the tree says (v5 @ fb696ef):
src/pkg/fleetreport/runtime.go:184and:187already route both of these exact messages to dedicated low-severity classes βClassSHAPollCommitMsgUnavail(keywordsha poll: commit message fetch non-200) andClassGitHubFetchTransient(keywordchannel commit date: fetch failed), bothLogFed: true.src/pkg/fleetreport/slogfeed/slogfeed.go:93and:108consultIsBenignMessagebeforeLogFedClass(:111). Adding these strings to the benign switch (fleetreport.go:791-794in this PR) means the feed returns before the class lookup, so those two classes can never be observed again. Nothing else observes them βgrep ClassSHAPollCommitMsgUnavail|ClassGitHubFetchTransientoutside tests only hits the class table.src/docs/fleet-report.md:149and:157document both classes, including the "β₯5 distinct SHA/status pairs in 10 min = broad outage such as a revoked token" signal thatsha_poll_commit_message_unavailableexists to surface. The PR leaves that doc describing behaviour that no longer happens.src/pkg/hub/sha_fetch_coverage_test.go:346-350pins the per-(SHA,status) dedupe contract specifically so that class fires only on a real outage. The PR's test (slogfeed_test.go:385-397) asserts zero observations for 8 repeats of the same SHA, which the dedupe already guaranteed before this change.
Why the issues exist anyway: #14392 and #14393 report hive commit fcf0e78, which is the v6 head (π fix(fleetreport): forward-port ioscan fail-closed class β¦ (#14358)). At v6, runtime.go contains neither class (gh api β¦/contents/src/pkg/fleetreport/runtime.go?ref=v6 β 0 matches). So on v5 the unclassified_error_repeated symptom in those issues cannot occur today; the gap is that #14149's sha_poll_commit_message_unavailable and the github_fetch_transient class were never forward-ported to v6.
Suggested fix instead: forward-port the two class rows (and their fleet-report.md entries) from v5 to v6, following the pattern of #14358 / #14276. That resolves both issues without removing the outage signal on v5. If the intent is really "these should never be reported at any count", that's a product call that should also delete the two classes and the two doc rows, not leave them as dead code.
Not duplicating #14365 (different message, same hunk β textual conflict only).

Conclusion: on v5 this change is redundant for the reported problem and regresses two purpose-built fleet classes. The reporting hive is on v6, which is where the gap actually is.
Evidence, read at v5 tip (beb98f4):
src/pkg/fleetreport/runtime.go:184and:187already definesha_poll_commit_message_unavailableandgithub_fetch_transientas log-fed classes keyed on exactly these two messages ("sha poll: commit message fetch non-200","channel commit date: fetch failed"). They are documented insrc/docs/fleet-report.md:149,157and asserted inruntime_test.go:360,364,937,940.src/pkg/fleetreport/slogfeed/slogfeed.go:93and:108consultIsBenignMessagebeforeLogFedClass. Adding these strings to theIsBenignMessageswitch (fleetreport.go:791-794in this diff) therefore returns early atslogfeed.go:109and the dedicated classes are never observed. The new testTestCommitFetchWarningsLogWithoutFleetReportassertslen(*seen) == 0, which is precisely the regression: at v5 tip those 8 warnings are observed under the two dedicated classes (that is why the test would fail without this change). The existingruntime_test.gocases callLogFedClass/classification directly and do not exercise the feed, so they stay green and mask the loss.- On v5 these messages are already kept out of
unclassified_error_repeatedby theMatchesExplicitClasscheck atslogfeed.go:93, so the body's stated symptom cannot occur on this base. - #14392 reports hive commit
fcf0e78, which is a v6 commit (#14358).runtime.goatfcf0e78and at currentv6has neitherClassSHAPollCommitMsgUnavailnorClassGitHubFetchTransient. That is the origin of theunclassified_error_repeatedreport β v6 never received the classes that v5 got via #14275.
Suggested direction: close this in favour of forward-porting the two classes (and their fleet-report.md rows) from v5 to v6, which fixes the reporting hive and keeps the designed "β₯5 distinct SHA/status pairs = broad outage" signal intact. I have not closed anything.
Not a duplicate of #14365 β that one benign-lists a different message (merge-request watcher: refused to merge, ci not confirmed) with no dedicated class; the two only collide textually at the tail of slogfeed_test.go.

Root cause: GitHub 403 (quota exhaustion on a busy App token) on the SHA-poll commit message fetch and channel commit date fetch emits repeated WARNs that the fleet classifier files as unclassified_error_repeated.
Change: add both messages to fleetreport.IsBenignMessage, following the pattern of #14347 and #14365; the original logs are preserved. Regression test added in slogfeed_test.go plus a changelog fragment.
