Summary

  • add the ExportConfig timeZone option and optional locale
  • format UTC timestamps in CSV/XLSX using the configured IANA timezone
  • preserve date-only values
  • retain compatibility with custom export transforms

Validation

  • table package typecheck passed
  • export test suite passed: 27 tests
  • table package build passed

Summary by Sourcery

Support timezone-aware table exports with optional locale formatting while preserving calendar dates and custom export transforms.

New Features:

  • Add optional timezone and locale configuration for formatting timestamp values in CSV and XLSX exports.
  • Expose timezone-aware export transformation for use in custom export flows.

Bug Fixes:

  • Preserve date-only and invalid timestamp values without unintended date shifts or rollover.

Enhancements:

  • Apply timezone formatting after custom export transforms while retaining existing transform compatibility.

Documentation:

  • Document timezone-aware export configuration, supported values, validation behavior, and custom usage.

Tests:

  • Add coverage for timezone formatting, locale and timezone validation, daylight-saving offsets, date preservation, custom transforms, and export integration.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • CSV and Excel exports can now format UTC timestamps and date values for a selected timezone and locale.
    • Date-only values and non-timestamp text remain unchanged, while custom transformations continue to apply.
    • Invalid timezone or locale settings now produce an error.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance for timezone-aware exports and the available export configuration options.

📝 Walkthrough

Table exports now support optional timezone and locale settings. A new transform formats matching timestamps and Date values after any custom transform. exportData and DataTableExport pass the composed transform to CSV and Excel exporters.

Changes: Timezone-aware exports

Timezone transform contract and implementation
packages/table/src/types.ts, packages/table/src/utils/export-utils.ts, packages/table/test/export-utils.test.ts, packages/table/src/index.ts, docs/export-config.md
ExportConfig adds optional timeZone and locale settings. The helper formats valid Date values and offset-bearing ISO timestamps after the custom transform. Other values remain unchanged. Tests and documentation cover the behavior.
Direct export integration
packages/table/src/utils/export-utils.ts, packages/table/test/export-utils.test.ts
exportData accepts the new options and passes the composed transform to CSV and Excel exporters.
DataTableExport integration
packages/table/src/export.tsx
DataTableExport builds the composed transform and passes it to both exporters.

</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**issue (broader_impact):** When a custom transform expects timestamp fields in their original ISO form, it receives the already localized display string instead, so existing transforms that inspect, parse, sort, or otherwise process the raw timestamp produce incorrect output or fail.

**Triggers:** When `timeZone` is configured together with an existing custom export transform that expects raw timestamp values.

**Suggested fix:** Run the custom transform on the original row before applying timezone formatting, or explicitly document and version the changed transform input contract.
</issue_to_address>

+        } catch {
+          return [key, value];
+        }
+      }),
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**issue (bug_risk):** An invalid IANA timezone or locale is silently ignored for each matching value, causing the export to contain the original UTC timestamp even though a timezone was configured; the caller receives a successful export with incorrect values and no error.

**Triggers:** When `timeZone` or `locale` is invalid.

**Suggested fix:** Validate the formatter once before processing rows and surface an export error, rather than returning the unformatted value from the per-cell catch.
</issue_to_address>

### Comment 3

<code_context>

+  return (row) => {

+      Object.entries(row).map(([key, value]) => {
+        if (typeof value !== "string" || !UTC_TIMESTAMP_PATTERN.test(value)) {

+        const date = new Date(value);
+        if (Number.isNaN(date.getTime())) return [key, value];
+
+        try {
+          return [
+            key,
+            new Intl.DateTimeFormat(locale, {
+              timeZone,
+              day: "numeric",
+              month: "short",
+              year: "numeric",
+              hour: "numeric",
+              minute: "2-digit",
+              hour12: true,
+            }).format(date),
+          ];
+        } catch {
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**issue (performance):** A new `Intl.DateTimeFormat` instance is constructed for every timestamp cell, so exports with many rows and timestamp columns repeatedly perform expensive formatter initialization and can become unnecessarily slow or freeze the UI.

**Triggers:** When exporting a large dataset containing many timestamp columns.

**Suggested fix:** Construct one formatter per transform invocation (or cache formatters by locale and timezone) and reuse it for all cells and rows.
</issue_to_address>

Preserve seconds in exported timestamps.

The formatter stops at minute, although the accepted timestamp strings can contain seconds and fractions. For example, 00:00:01Z and 00:00:59Z on the same date export as the same local time. CSV and XLSX then lose the distinction between those events. Include seconds and preserve the precision required by the export contract. (developer.mozilla.org)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Detect unsupported locales before accepting the configuration.

For a syntactically valid but unsupported locale, Intl.DateTimeFormat can use a fallback locale without throwing. The export then uses a different locale, despite the documented unsupported-locale error contract. Check Intl.DateTimeFormat.supportedLocalesOf(locale) when locale is supplied, and reject an unsupported result. (tc39.es)

* chore(deps): upgrade dev tooling and examples to latest majors

Upgrade every outdated dependency to its latest major except zod and
@tanstack/react-table (kept on zod 3 / react-table 8 on purpose).

- TypeScript 7 for package builds; TypeScript 6.0.3 hoisted at the root
  for tools that need the compiler API (tsup dts, typescript-eslint,
  SvelteKit), since TypeScript 7 ships no JS API
- list "node" in tsconfig types where @types globals were relied on
  implicitly, and drop removed baseUrl options
- Vitest 5, Vite 8, ESLint 10, jsdom 30, tsup 9, dotenv 18, shadcn 4
- react-day-picker 10: rename the removed `table` class key to `month_grid`
- adapter-sveltekit: support SvelteKit 3 (and keep 2.57.1+) by deriving
  the base path from `resolve()` instead of the removed `base` export,
  and declaring the `Handle` type locally
- sveltekit-example: migrate to SvelteKit 3 (config in the vite plugin,
  #lib subpath imports, tsconfig extends $app/tsconfig)
- vite-web-example: fix ESLint 10 / react-hooks lint errors

Local development now needs Node.js 24.15+ (or 22.22+).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* chore(release): @tablecraft/table 0.2.28, @tablecraft/adapter-sveltekit 0.3.0

- @tablecraft/table: 0.2.27 → 0.2.28 (timezone-aware exports from #39,
  react-day-picker 10)
- @tablecraft/adapter-sveltekit: 0.2.0 → 0.3.0 (SvelteKit 3 support)

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(adapter-sveltekit): accept SvelteKit 2 resolve type; address review

- widen Handle's resolve return to Response | Promise<Response> so it is
  assignable to SvelteKit 2's Handle (verified against kit 2.57.1 and 3.1.0)
- test the base path with a trailing-slash request in relative mode
- sveltekit-example: require svelte ^5.57.1 (SvelteKit 3 minimum)
- CONTRIBUTING: update the Node.js prerequisite for the new tooling
